Allah ‘azza wa jall said:

قُلْ بِفَضْلِ اللَّـهِ وَبِرَحْمَتِهِ فَبِذَلِكَ فَلْيَفْرَحُوا هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِّمَّا يَجْمَعُونَ

Say, “In the bounty of Allah and in His mercy – in that let them rejoice; it is better than what they accumulate.” [Surah Yunus (10):58]

Narrated from Abdullah ibn Amru (may Allah be pleased with him), the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: “Verily for every worshipper there is a period of eagerness (shirrah), and for every eagerness there is a period of inactivity (fatrah). So, whoever applies his period of inactivity in accordance with my sunnah (religious practice), then he is guided. And whoever applies his inactivity in accordance with anything other than that, he is destroyed.” [Narrated by Ahmad, authenticated by Al-Albani in At-Targheeb wa At-Tarheeb]

Narrated from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: “Nothing ever brings me more happiness other than Islam, because of it desires do not enter my heart.” [Al-Lalikaa’i]

Success is by adhering to the Sunnah and abstaining from following the desires.

Abu ‘Aliyyah said: “I don’t know which of these two blessings is greater: either when Allah took me out of Shirk into Islam, or when Allah preserves me from following my desires in Islam.” [Al-Lalikaa’i]

Benefits from this lesson:

  • Success is by adhering to the Sunnah and abstaining from following the desires.
  • The guidance from the Sunnah is one of the greatest blessings and gifts of Allah upon His slaves after the guidance of Islam.
  • Knowledge of Sunnah is a sign of guidance.
